HYPERBARIC & ADVANCED WOUND HEALING CENTER

The team at the Hyperbaric and Advanced Wound Healing Center

There’s a common saying in the wound care field: “Treat the whole patient, not the hole in the patient.” That motto effectively sums up the approach at Grays Harbor Community Hospital’s Wound Healing Center, where the medical team considers each patient from a holistic perspective, creates individualized plans, and collaborates to restore overall health. “We practice advanced wound care here,” says, Melanie Brandt, RN. “We know everything that’s going to impact wounds and we can offer treatments that you’re typically not going to get in any type of facility other than a large urban hospital.” (READ MORE)

HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) consists of the patient lying on a comfortable bed in a clear acrylic chamber while they are subject to a 100 percent oxygenated environment at greater-than-normal atmospheric pressure. This unique environment enables patients' blood plasma to absorb 15 to 20 times the normal amount of oxygen in the body's tissue. This oxygenated blood helps to heal problematic wounds. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be used for:

  • Wagner grade 3 diabetic foot ulcers.

  • Soft tissue radionecrosis and osteoradionecrosis.

  • Chronic refractory osteomyelitis.

  • Compromised skin grafts and flaps.

  • Crush injuries.

  • Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency.

Each hyperbaric chamber has its own TV/DVD players, so that you can relax during your treatment. The clear walls on the chamber allow you to communicate with the hyperbaric technician who is continuously monitoring your progress. A typical HBO treatment will take about 90 minutes, and patients benefit from continued use.
